Post: All Things Dermal Fillers

Getting fillers for the first time can be both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking!

What exactly are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substance injected into the skin to smoothen facial wrinkles or provide a more voluminous appearance, depending on the type of filler used. Our fillers at True Bella are mostly comprised of HA (Hyaluronic Acid), which is a substance that is also naturally found in your body. One of our most common ways we use dermal fillers is for FACIAL BALANCING. Facial balancing provides the best results because it allows us to customize your treatment to your unique facial features, needs and goals. This is one of our most popular and signature services we offer at True Bella because it helps restore overall balance and harmony by injecting dermal filler into various areas of the face.

CONSULTATION:

First things first- we will always have a thorough consultation to discuss your goals, assess your facial anatomy and explain the treatment plan! The consultation will lay the foundation for beautiful results! It will also be the time for you to ask any questions or concerns that have not been answered.

APPOINTMENT PREP

Before getting fillers it’s important to stay clear of alcohol the day prior and avoid taking Advil, aspirin, or ibuprofen. All of these can thin your blood, potentially leading to increased bleeding or swelling at the injection site. Some patients like to take Arnica tablets orally as well, which for some can help with bruising.

pain level

Probably one of the most common questions we receive! Although pain tolerance caries from person to person, many of our patients find that our topical numbing cream provides significant relief. We have other techniques we like to use to ensure our patients comfort! Most say dermal fillers are very tolerable. So don’t worry, we have your back and will make sure you are nice and comfy before injecting you.

results

You may experience some initial swelling or redness, but this typically subsides within a few days! The full results will come more apparent as any swelling diminishes. It’s important to note that every person’s body is different, so swelling and bruising will vary. Filler also typically takes about 2 weeks to settle, so if you have a special event, we suggest you book accordingly.

aftercare

Ice, ice baby! Icing is always good! Apply ice to any areas that are swollen for anywhere between 10-30 minutes. And if you are someone who bruises then we suggest you use Arnica which will help minimize the potential for bruising. We also want you to avoid any strenuous exercise, spas, saunas or hot showers for at least 24 hours. And don’t worry we will go over this more in depth with you at your first appointment.

NUMBER OF SYRINGES

This will vary from patient to patient! It truly will depend on many factors such as goals (are we trying to create volume, balance the face, get rid of fine lines, or inject one area like the lips). This along with price will all be discussed at your consultation! However just to put it in perspective for you so you can get somewhat of an idea:

One syringe only contains 1 ML of product. To paint a picture for you, think of it this way: 1 packet of ketchup is equivalent to roughly 10 syringes of filler. That is why it’s so important to see a provider that understands the artistry of aesthetic work and knows how to properly select and place filler.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR RESULTS LAST

We recommend to come in for a maintenance appointment every 6 months to two years. Time in between appointments will depend on the areas treated and how your body naturally metabolizes the filler. Other ways to protect your results is with SPF and skincare! Proper, consistent skin care can actually extend the life of your results from injectable treatments. Stronger and healthier skin helps prolong the effects of injectables. Antioxidants like Vitamin C also protect against damage from sun and pollution.ou can also shop all of our favorite products in the clinic, and our team is more than happy to provide a skin consultation to help recommend the best products for you!
